Fundraising and Donations

Fundraising is a large part of CALH’s activity since its inception, raising the funds necessary to pay for legal and expert consultants in the fight against Pintail Landfill.

In January of 2013, CALH began holding monthly 2-day Garage Sales (termed ‘more than a’ Garage Sale to better describe the event) which frequently grossed over $10,000 each. In fact, the November 2015 sale made a record breaking $17,000! With our 43rd sale in January 2017, CALH has suspended the Garage Sale effort, having made an estimated $750,000 in the 4 years of its operation. Thanks to donors, shoppers, the Schwarz family, and volunteers whose hardworking and dedicated community effort have made these events so successful! Learn how these garage sales came together by clicking here.

Other CALH fundraising ventures have included the ‘Beautiful Waller County’ calendar (2014 and 2015 editions), the Kroger Community Rewards and the Amazon Smile programs. There are links below which explain how to easily register for the Kroger and Amazon programs. In addition, since 2013, CALH has held highly successful annual ‘We Stand United’ Dinner/Auction fundraisers, raising in excess of $300,000 to date.

We are also extremely fortunate to have many supporters who send monetary contributions on a regular basis. Please note that CALH is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt charitable organization and your donations are tax deductible. With the end of garage sales and its regular income stream, CALH has launched a new initiative we are calling the “Pledge Program”. We are asking supporters to consider making a commitment to pledge a tax deductible monthly donation to help fund our continuing efforts, and to notify CALH by completing and returning a “Pledge Form”. Downloadable “Pledge Form” and list of suggested methods of payment are available here and at the link below.

An estimated $2 million has been raised and utilized to achieve the successes we have accomplished to date thanks to your generous contributions, participation and continued support of our events. In light of recent significant progress, the question ‘How much longer will CALH work to raise funds?’ has arisen. ‘Until the Pintail people have gone home and the last bill is paid’ is our response. Your continued support will ensure a safe and prosperous future for our County and its citizens and we thank you very much.
